Hostel Vs Hotel

Hostel

Hotel

  • Cheaper than a hotel
  • Great place to meet other guests
  • Self-catering kitchen saves money on eating out
  • Complimentary light breakfast
  • Common area with pool, X-Box, Nintendo Wii, and movie area
  • Free wi-fi for laptops and cheap computer stations
  • Friendly staff who like helping other travellers because
they are travellers themselves and encourage social interaction
    amongst the guests
  • Shared bunk-bed style dorms with between 3-7 other people in
    the room
  • Can tend to be noisy sometimes because you are sharing with
other people, but you also get to meet other people
  • Toilet facilities are shared with others
  • Laid-back atmosphere makes you feel at home
  • Social activities like movie nights, pub quizzes, buffets,
pool tournaments, and outdoor barbeques (weather permitting)
  • Small bar and travel store selling snacks, beers, travel
    needs, and hot drinks
  • Outdoor garden (lovely in the warmer months!)
  • Close city centre location convenient to the main
transportation links and walking distance to Birmingham's main
    attractions

  • More expensive than a hostel
  • Hard to meet other people
  • No access to kitchen (but might have room service or tea and
    coffee facilities
  • Some might charge extra for a breakfast
  • No area to hang out in besides your room (some hotels might
    have bars or restaurants)
  • Most hotels charge extra for internet access
  • Staff are more business-like and less likely to be as social
    as hostel staff
  • Private room with more personalized services (wake up calls,
    room service, TV)
  • Rooms are quieter because it is a private room
  • Most hotels have en-suite bathrooms
  • Atmosphere more private and individual
  • No social activities amongst guests
  • Some hotels might have bars and small stores
  • Some hotels might have outdoor gardens
  • Hotels in the city centre are more expensive than hotels
further out from the city centre, and may not be as convenient in
    regards to transportation lines

Why not try a hostel to see for yourself.
